Ashok Leyland gets orders for 1,282 buses from Gujarat

On Friday, the commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland shared that it has secured an order for 1,282 fully built buses from the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).

This order, one of the largest placed by a state transport agency with a single manufacturer, will help reinforce Ashok Leyland’s leading position in the Indian bus market. According to the agreement, Ashok Leyland will supply 55-seater fully assembled BS VI diesel buses to GSRTC in stages.

At the time of reporting, the company’s shares were trading 1.6 percent higher at Rs 176.8.

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has a long-standing partnership with Ashok Leyland, with over 2,600 buses from the company currently in operation by GSRTC.

Sanjeev Kumar, President of Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles at Ashok Leyland, mentioned, “They already have BSVI buses operating successfully in their fleet, including 320 fully built midi buses. This new order adds to our order book from State Transport Undertakings, bringing the total to over 4,000 buses. GSRTC has been a valued and long-standing partner, and we take pride in consistently delivering high-performance vehicles to them.”
